There have been a lot of firsts for Temple University’s
football program this year. It beat Penn State University for the first
time in 70 years. Thursday’s 24-14 win over East Carolina marks the
first time the team went 7-0 in school history. It also signifies the
first time Temple's been nationally ranked since 1979 — both years the
pope visited Philadelphia.
Now there could
be another first (at least a first in a good long time) according to
radio station 97.5 The Fanatic afternoon drive host Mike Missanelli, who reported that his sources are telling him that ESPN’s College GameDay will be broadcasting live a week from Saturday when the Owls host Notre Dame University at 8 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field.
Crossing Broad noted that College GameDay’s Twitter account posted after Thursday’s win that the last time Temple won as a nationally ranked team in the regular season was 1941.
Sources have
told the Philadelphia Business Journal that ESPN had been eying a site
near Lincoln Financial Field for the broadcast, possibly XFinity Live,
which runs from the morning pre-game show through the end of the night
game.
Regardless of
the specific location, it looks like ESPN is most definitely bringing
its signature college football program to Philadelphia.
